Since 1947, Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Club of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club teens. Over the years, these individuals have exemplified the Boys & Girls Club mission and are proof to the impact Clubs make in transforming and saving kids’ lives.

Candidates who have competed in the YOY Academy and Competition, have gone on to great success.  YOY is arguably one of the most impactful and rewarding events of the year!

Tavia is our 2020 State Youth of the Year Winner!

She is currently attending the University of San Francisco (USFCA) as an Architecture major. She is part of USFCA’s Army ROTC program and a member of a sorority.

Tavia is also working part-time at the Lihue Boys & Girls Club as a Program Assistant. Tavia shared, she is “Learning to make connections with youth and understanding how to be a good support system and guide for them”.

This year, many friends and supporters will join virtually to celebrate the achievements of our YOY finalists and hear each one tell their story. We continue to look forward to gathering together online with our community representing corporate partners, government officials, philanthropists and families, all in support of our youth! The winner of the BGCH YOY Competition (Feb. 20, 2021) will then compete for the 2021 Hawaiʻi State Youth of the Year title on March 30, 2021. That winner goes on to compete in the Pacific Regional competition in summer of 2021.
