Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Walk in the Country?
A: Walk in the Country is Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii’s signature annual fundraising event and one of Hawaii’s premier culinary experiences. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Walk in the Country and the 50th anniversary of Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii—a milestone celebrating five decades of creating brighter futures for local youth.
Guests enjoy an unforgettable evening featuring tastings from Hawaii’s top chefs and restaurants, specialty wines and beverages, exciting auction experiences, live entertainment, and inspiring stories of the lives being changed through the Club.
Most importantly, every dollar raised helps provide young people across Hawaii with safe places to go after school, caring mentors, academic support, leadership opportunities, and life-changing experiences they may not otherwise have. Your participation helps ensure more local youth have the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a great future.
Q: What’s new at Walk in the Country this year?
A: We’re excited to introduce our Vacation Marketplace! Browse an incredible collection of curated travel experiences to destinations around the world while supporting Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii. It’s a fun new way to support our mission and maybe even book your next adventure!
Q: What can I expect during the evening?
A: Guests will enjoy tastings from some of Hawaii’s finest chefs and restaurants, specialty wines and beverages, live entertainment, exciting silent and live auctions, our new Vacation Marketplace, and inspiring stories highlighting the impact of Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii. Most importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to invest in the futures of local kids while enjoying a memorable night at the Four Seasons Resort Oʻahu at Ko Olina.
Q: Is parking available at the event?
A: Yes! Complimentary valet parking will be available for all guests. As the event concludes, there may be a brief wait while vehicles are retrieved due to the volume of attendees. We appreciate your patience and thank you for helping our valet team ensure a smooth and safe departure for everyone. Tips are appreciated!
Q: What is the dress code for Walk in the Country?
A: Resort casual or aloha attire is encouraged. The event takes place both indoors and outdoors on the Ko Olina lawn, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for walking on grass. Aloha shirts, sundresses, and resort wear are all great choices.
Q: What if I have a food allergy or dietary restriction?
A: If you have a food allergy or dietary restriction, please contact Inglish Jones at ijones@bgch.com or Tina Albao at talbao@bgch.com no later than July 31 so we can work with our culinary partners to accommodate your needs. While we cannot guarantee every request can be met, vegan options will be available during the event, and we will do our best to ensure you have an enjoyable dining experience.
Q: Are pets allowed at the event?
A: In accordance with Four Seasons Resort Oʻahu at Ko Olina policies, only trained service animals are permitted at the event. Service animals must remain under their handler’s control at all times. We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all guests.
Q: Are guests under the age of 21 permitted to attend?
A: Yes. Guests under the age of 21 are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. To support our alcohol service procedures and help ensure compliance with Hawaii’s liquor laws, all guests under 21 are required to wear an event-issued wristband throughout the evening.
Q: How do I register for the auction?
A: Our online silent auction will open on August 5 and close at 7:00 p.m. on August 8. All registered guests will receive a link to register for the auction prior to the event, allowing you to browse and begin bidding before you arrive.
