The philosophy of the It Just Takes One campaign is that it just takes one caring adult to make a life-long impact on the character of a child. The dollars raised from the One Campaign provide the youth of Hawaii with a safe place to learn and grow, away from the negative influences that many are confronted with today.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hawaii is committed to enabling all children to participate in our youth guidance and development programs. We do this by keeping membership fees affordable for everyone...just $1 a year! This is only possible thanks to contributions from generous individuals and businesses, like you.

Here is an example of how the Club has made a lasting difference in ONE child’s life:

Going from foster home to foster home, I felt that the system was a joke! I hated my mother for allowing this to happen to us. I hated the world, I hated my family, and I especially hated myself and who I was. All I could think about was making everyone feel as miserable as I was.

One day my aunty took me the Club and left me there. I did not want to be there where kids were happy, smiling, laughing, singing, and friendly. Then one of the staff members noticed me. I tried my best to ignore her but she didn’t get my message. I felt that everyone there was totally opposite from who I was. Yet, I found myself drawn to the Club. The staff did not pass judgment on me and looked beyond my flaws.

I began to learn to apply myself to become a better person and a better student, a team player. I learned to forgive those that hurt me, but mostly I learned to forgive myself. I became involved working directly with the younger children. I listened, supported, and plugged them into programs that would benefit them.

I was now able to give back what the Club gave to me.
