1960
Originally chartered as the
Lester McCoy Boys Club under
the auspices of Charles C. Spalding,
Garner Anderson and Arthur Reinwald.
1975
Groundbreaking is held for our
first facility on the grounds
of Washington Intermediate School.
The club opens on May 3, 1976
and includes a gym, craft center,
library/meeting room, kitchen,
game rooms and offices.
1985
A $2,000,000 building and endowment
fund drive begins to expand
operations to Wai‘anae.
1988
On January 26, ground is broken
in Wai‘anae and on November
10, 1988 the club opens on the
grounds of Wai‘anae Elementary
School. In one year, the club
has 1,600 members.
1989
A satellite unit opens at Ilima
Elementary School in ‘Ewa Beach.
1993
On the heels of Hurricane Iniki,
the first neighbor island facility
opens on Kaua‘i on the grounds
of Kapa‘a High School. A second
facility in Waimea opens in
1998.
1997
An extension of the Wai‘anae
club opens in Nanakuli. The
first Harry and Jeanette Weinberg
Teen Center opens on Oahu adjacent
to the Spalding Clubhouse.The
first Harry and Jeanette Weinberg
Teen Center opens on Oahu adjacent
to the Spalding Clubhouse.
2002
The Hale Pono ‘Ewa Beach Clubhouse
is dedicated and opened. A second
Harry and Jeanette Weinberg
Teen Center is part of this
facility. An extension of the
Spalding Clubhouse opens in
Papakolea.
2005
The Los Angeles Lakers fund
and dedicate the Los Angeles
Lakers Reading Center at the
Spalding Clubhouse.
2006
The National Football League
pledges $1,000,000 to help fund
the $3,000,000 Honolulu NFL
Youth Education Town Center
in Nānākuli, the 16th facility
of its kind in the U.S.
Programs begin at the new Windward
Clubhouse in Kailua in March
in conjunction with a community
endowment drive to fund a permanent
facility at Kailua Intermediate
School.
2007
The Los Angeles Lakers fund
and dedicate the 2nd Los Angeles
Lakers Reading Center at the
Hale Pono Ewa Beach Clubhouse.
